WTC Final Qualification: How can India Qualify for the WTC Final 2025?

Summary: Losing to Australia in Adelaide drove Rohit Sharma's team to third place in the World Test Championship rankings, India cannot afford to lose any more points.

India cannot afford to drop any more points after they beat Australia by 10 wickets in the Adelaide Pink-Ball Test, which moved them to third position in the World Test Championship rankings.

With South Africa soaring to the top of the points table after defeating Sri Lanka by 109 runs in the second Test at St. George's Park in Gqeberha, the race to the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final has reached an exciting stage.

After securing the series 2-0, South Africa now reached the 63.33 percentile points, just ahead of Australia who are at 60.71 percentage points. India is in third place with 57.29 percent points, and Sri Lanka is in fourth position with 45.45 points.

South Africa's win followed Australia's brief rise to the top, which was made possible by their resounding 10-wicket victory over India in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

The top teams are fighting for an exclusive spot in the WTC 2024 Final. While New Zealand and Pakistan have a long way to go, Australia, India, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are still strong contenders.

India has just three more Test matches left in this series to make amends and earn a spot in the WTC final for the third time in a row. Their sixth Test loss, and their fourth in two months since their 0–3 thumping at home against New Zealand, has made the task more difficult.

India needs to win their next three games to get to the WTC 2025 final without relying on anybody else. Also, India can afford two wins and one tie to end with a PCT of 60.52. With three crucial victories, Rohit and his team may amass 146 points at a dominant 64.05 PCT that Australia cannot match. India must defeat the reigning WTC champions by a shocking 3-2 to do that.
