Team India's T20 World Cup Victory Parade: Massive celebrations after the win
Summary: Team India is going to perform an open bus victory parade starting from the historic Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium.
After winning the T20 World Cup, the Indian cricket team arrived in New Delhi early on Thursday morning. At the team hotel, the IGI Airport, and en route to the hotel, the players received warm welcomes. In addition to meeting PM Narendra Modi and attending a BCCI felicitation celebration at Wankhede Stadium, Team India has a packed program today that includes an open bus trophy tour in Mumbai.
Due to a hurricane, Team India was forced to stay in Barbados; however, they were evacuated from the West Indies in a specially scheduled charter flight. Team India took Air India flight AIC24WC, or Air India Champions 24 World Cup, from Barbados to New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The 16-hour nonstop flight left at 4:50 am local time on Wednesday and landed in Delhi at 6 am IST on Thursday. Team India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final last Saturday.
When Rohit Sharma and his squad arrive in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will welcome them at 11 a.m. Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, the delegation will travel to Mumbai for an open roadshow and felicitation event.
Vice-president of the BCCI Rajeev Shukla told news agency PTI, "There will be a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus, and later we will honor and present the players with the announced Rs 125 crore in prize money."
In the same spot, 14 years ago, there was a roadshow when MS Dhoni's team defeated Pakistan in the 2007 World T20 Championship final in South Africa. That year, however, the procession took a longer (30 km) path, allowing spectators to join in the fun from the Mumbai airport to Wankhede Stadium.
