IPL 2024: RCB vs. SRH: Dinesh Karthik’s 83 goes in vain; SRH beats RCB by 25 runs

In the IPL 2024 match in Bengaluru on Monday, SRH defeated the home team (RCB) by a margin of 25 runs, despite an outstanding performance from Dinesh Karthik. Despite scoring more than 500 runs, Hyderabad defeated RCB in an outstanding victory. Despite reaching 262, RCB was still 25 runs short of SRH's match-winning 287/3. 

With this batting performance, RCB became the first team in an IPL match to score more than 250 when chasing. Their total was the fifth-highest in the history of the tournament and the second-highest in the IPL. Nearly 550 runs were scored in this match, exactly, in what might well be considered one of the best batting performances in a T20 competition.

Bengaluru lost for the sixth time in their last seven games and remains at the bottom of the points table, but this shows how poor their bowling has been. The batters gave it everything they had, but 288 is nearly unimaginable to get in 120 deliveries. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli both got off to fast starts and hit a lot of boundaries, but after Kohli was out for 42, Faf went on the rampage, but the next three batters who came in were unable to reach double figures. 

After Faf du Plessis eventually fell off at 62, Dinesh Karthik took charge and merely preserved Bengaluru's hopes of winning by one percent. Despite his incredible 83 off 35 balls, he was out in the 19th over, and Anuj Rawat's brief appearance in the last over was far from sufficient to secure their crucial victory.

Travis Head's blazing century led SRH to a whopping 287 for three against a faltering RCB. This set a new record, topping their previous high of 277 against Michigan earlier this season. Head led from the start with a brilliant 102 off 41 deliveries, his first T20 hundred.
