David Miller opens up on T20 World Cup two days after losing it and says he is ‘Gutted’
Summary: David Miller's emotional post following South Africa's loss to India by only 7 runs after being dismissed by Suryakumar Yadav.
David Miller was at the heart of it all as South Africa, in the 2024 T20 World Cup, came the closest to winning a major title in the history of men's cricket. When Heinrich Klaasen pulled the Proteas within 30 runs of victory in their chase against India in the tournament final in Barbados, Miller was at the non-striker's end. Nevertheless, South Africa was devastated as Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya masterminded an incredible victory for themselves.
The South African men's team had never advanced to the World Cup final, but it wasn't the first heartbreaking time they had lost in the major tournament's knockout rounds. The Proteas have advanced to seven previous ICC competition semifinals.
Miller was a member of both the team that lost to Australia in the 2015 ODI World Cup semifinal in India and the team that was defeated by New Zealand in the same tournament last year.
A heartbroken David Miller admitted that the T20 World Cup final loss to India was a difficult blow. Still, the swashbuckling batter voiced faith that, despite the anguish, the resilient South African team would continue to push boundaries. The Proteas had escaped the label of being perennial "chokers" by going undefeated into their first T20 World Cup final. However, they fell short in the summit showdown, losing to India by seven runs. "It is tough to accept considering what happened two days earlier. Words do not express how I am feeling. One thing I know is how proud I am of this unit," Miller wrote in an Instagram story late on Monday.
However, the fiery batter believes the present team can recover from their most recent loss. "It was a wonderful experience, with some ups and downs throughout the month. We've been through a lot, but I know this crew is strong and will keep pushing forward," he stated.
