Ukraine’s Daring Drone Strikes Deep Inside Russia Send a Strong Signal

Summary: Ukraine recently launched a military attack called "Operation Spider Web," in which 117 drones targeted five Russian air bases, destroying nearly 40 aircraft.

In a stunning display of power, Ukraine launched a well-planned drone attack deep within Russian territory, destroying dozens of military aircraft. The mission, dubbed "Operation Spider Web," is one of Ukraine's largest airstrikes since the conflict began.

According to Ukrainian officials, 117 drones were employed in the operation, which targeted five strategic Russian air sites. The damage was considerable, resulting in the destruction of around 40 Russian planes, including powerful long-range bombers like the Tu-95 and Tu-22. Radar surveillance planes, including the A-50, were also destroyed.

The method adopted in this attack was particularly courageous. Ukraine's security agency (SBU) was able to transport drones into Russia and conceal them near airbases using specially modified cars and sheds. These drones were later activated remotely, catching the Russian military completely off guard.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who personally oversaw the planning, described it as a huge achievement. The operation took nearly 18 months to prepare, and Ukraine carried it out entirely on its own — a fact Zelenskyy proudly emphasized. This, he said, is proof that Ukraine is becoming more self-sufficient in defending its land.

The timing is also critical. The operation happened just ahead of planned peace talks in Istanbul. Ukraine made it clear it’s still willing to negotiate, but only under firm conditions: a full ceasefire and the return of children taken during the conflict.

"Operation Spider Web" is more than a military victory; it is also a political statement. It sends a message to Russia that Ukraine can strike where it hurts — and it reminds the world that, even in the midst of protracted conflict, Ukraine has the capacity and strategy to move decisively on its own.
