Red Fort Blast: Suspect Identified as Umar Mohammad; Car Parked for Hours Before Explosion

Summary: A 36-year-old doctor from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, named Dr. Umar Mohammad, has been named as the main suspect in the Red Fort car blast.

According to Delhi Police officials, CCTV footage shows a white Hyundai i20 parked near the Red Fort for about three hours before exploding. The camera showed that the automobile arrived about 3:19 p.m. and detonated at around 6:48 p.m., spreading shockwaves throughout the region and causing panic among locals and tourists.

Police officials confirmed that Umar Mohammad, who previously worked at a medical college in Faridabad, has been missing for several weeks. He is suspected of having links with an active terror module operating in northern India. His photograph, recovered from official records, has been circulated to security agencies nationwide.

“The explosion appears to be well-planned and executed with precision,” said a senior NIA officer involved in the probe. “We are tracing Umar’s movements, financial trail, and communication records to identify other people involved.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case and is working alongside the Delhi Police Special Cell. Preliminary forensic reports indicate the use of high-grade explosives, though officials are awaiting confirmation from the laboratory.

Authorities are also looking into the car's ownership history, which has apparently changed hands several times in recent months, prompting suspicions that it was used to mask the identity of the real offenders.

Security measures in the capital have been tightened after the explosion. Police have increased patrols at temples, metro stations, and major commercial districts. The Red Fort remains closed to the public while forensic specialists work on finding the evidence.

Home Ministry officials were briefed on the situation, and a high-level meeting was called to assess intelligence reports. Investigators suspect the blast was part of a bigger terror operation, and numerous teams are currently investigating leads in Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

As the hunt for Umar Mohammad continues, security agencies have appealed to the public to share any information related to the suspect or the vehicle. The case has once again emphasized the urgent need for stronger urban surveillance and tighter coordination between intelligence agencies.
