PM Modi in Navi Mumbai: Airport, Metro & UK PM Visits in Focus
Summary: PM Modi inaugurates major Mumbai projects and hosts UK PM amid massive infrastructure push.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Maharashtra for a packed two-day visit, and today’s spotlight is on Navi Mumbai. He’ll walk through the newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) around 3 p.m., and by 3:30 p.m., he’s expected to officially inaugurate it, while also dedicating several other projects to the public.
This airport isn’t just another terminal. Built under a PPP model at a cost of roughly ₹19,650 crore, it spans 1,160 hectares and aims to be among India’s most efficient greenfield airports.
It features some standout additions: solar power capacity (~47 MW), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) infrastructure, e-bus connectivity, and even a water taxi link.
On the metro front, Modi will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line 3 (the Aqua Line) — this stretch connects Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade and completes the fully underground metro corridor. It’s a bold modernization move for the city’s transport system.
He’ll also roll out “Mumbai One”, a unified mobility app to streamline ticketing across multiple public transport services in Mumbai — metro, bus, suburban rail, etc. The idea: ease commuter life with a single digital solution.
Beyond infrastructure, there’s a bigger diplomatic angle. Tomorrow, Modi will host UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai. They’ll participate in a CEO Forum, deliver keynote addresses at the Global Fintech Fest, and deepen ties under the India–UK strategic partnership roadmap.
