The granddaughter of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, Navya Naveli Nanda, recently spoke out about the criticism she faced on social media after being accepted into the esteemed IIM Ahmedabad. Navya talked about the pros and cons of being a famous personality during her speech at the Mumbai Conclave.
When asked about the trolling, “Social media has been a great platform because it’s given a lot of people a voice, especially those who previously might not have that kind of reach,” she said during a session titled ‘Beyond the Legacy: Gen Z for a Just and Equal India’.
“It’s a good place for me to put my work out there. If used correctly, it can be a powerful tool for change,” she said, highlighting the potential of social media to bring positive change.
She acknowledges her privileged background and addresses the trolls, saying, “I accept that I come from a very different lived reality. People will have something to say about it. I don’t give much thought to negative comments; I use them to fuel my journey.”
Navya also discussed the value of public opinion, especially in light of her involvement in charitable endeavors. She said, “If I consider myself to be working for people, I can’t be offended by what they say. Feedback is essential—it helps me become a better person, a better entrepreneur, and a better Indian.”
Finally, Navya conveyed her thanks for the opportunities she had been given and her educational experience. Despite the criticism, she is determined to use her position for good and encourage others to use social media responsibly.
Navya is well-known for her hit podcast, "What The Hell, Navya," in which she has open discussions with her mother and grandmother.
