Modi & Starmer Meet in Mumbai, Eye Deepened Ties Across Trade & Tech

Summary: UK PM Keir Starmer’s first India visit focuses on trade, fintech, defence, and cultural bonds.

Mumbai is buzzing today with diplomatic energy. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer landed here for his first official visit to India, and the stage is set for a meaningful meeting with PM Narendra Modi. Their agenda isn’t light — trade, fintech, defence, and future tech are all on the menu.

Starmer didn’t waste time easing into the heart of the visit. He visited YRF Studios in Andheri, signaling that cultural diplomacy (especially films and content collaborations) will be a thread in this visit.

He also announced that major Indian film studios, including YRF, will ramp up production in UK locations — part of this push to strengthen creative and cultural ties.

As for the political and economic side, Starmer and Modi are expected to formally address the Global Fintech Summit. Their talks will likely expand on the recently sealed India–UK Free Trade Agreement and explore cooperation in connectivity, transport, tech, innovation, and pharma.

The stakes are high. Starmer brings a large trade delegation (over 100 companies and organizations in tow) and massive investment pledges — something Modi himself flagged as “historic.”

Their discussions today could set the tone for how India and the UK frame their economic and strategic partnership in the years to come.
