India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate After Deadly Strikes: Operation Sindoor and Retaliation Intensify Conflict

Summary: India-Pakistan tensions escalated following Operation Sindoor and counterattacks, leading to reported casualties and international calls for reducing tensions.

India and Pakistan are close to a larger conflict after both sides carried out deadly military actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

India launched Operation Sindoor against nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This operation was a response to the attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 Hindu pilgrims. India used precise weapons such as SCALP cruise missiles and HAMMER bombs to target the terror networks associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In a swift and aggressive response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos, striking 25 Indian targets, including airbases and military depots. Pakistan used Fateh medium-range missiles and drones in a campaign that Indian officials claim also damaged civilian infrastructure in states such as Punjab, Udhampur, and Srinagar.

Both nations have reported civilian deaths. India stated that 15 civilians, including four children, were killed and 43 others were injured due to artillery fire from Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan asserted that Indian missile attacks resulted in 31 fatalities and over 46 injuries, claiming that mosques and residential areas were targeted.

World leaders from the US, the G7 countries, China, and Iran are worried about the rising conflict. They urge both countries to show restraint and engage in talks to avoid a possible war between the two nuclear powers.

As troop movements intensify along the border and both sides remain on high alert, the situation continues to develop rapidly. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but the risk of further escalation remains high.
