Google’s Gemini AI can now speak 9 Indian languages: Get all the updates

Summary: In addition to Hindi and English, Google’s Gemini can now support Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Marathi.

At the 10th Google for India event on Thursday, Google revealed that it is adding support for nine Indian languages to make it even easier for people in India to talk with its AI assistant, Gemini.

Google launched Gemini Live in Hindi, and in the upcoming weeks, it will also be available in eight other Indian languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu. Currently, more than 40% of Indian users rely on voice communications.

Hema Buraraju, senior director of product management at Google, said, "Gemini Live allows seamless, free-flowing voice conversations, according to user preferences, and enables them to ask follow-up questions or return to previous queries. The tool is designed to help users learn new concepts and brainstorm ideas, making it easier for people to access information in their language."

This feature was revealed in August during the Google Pixel 9 launch event, after being first available only to Gemini Advanced customers. However, Google just disclosed that it will now be openly available to all Android users.

Google continues to develop AI Overviews, a tool that assists users in finding information quickly by providing links to relevant web pages. AI Overviews is currently available in Hindi and English, and it will soon support Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi as well.

Another significant update for Google Lens lets users conduct video searches. Soon, users will be able to record films using Lens and ask questions in real time about what they observe. This feature will be offered to Search Labs users in the "AI Overviews and More" experiment, beginning with mobile English inquiries.

Google is introducing new AI tools to help Indian businesses make a strong online presence. Image-to-video animation will be available in Google Merchant Center's Product Studio, enabling companies to create engaging content. Restaurants can also display promotions from social media and apps like Zomato and Swiggy by transforming their menu photos into digital formats.
