Days after being admitted to the hospital after a brain stroke, Acharya Satyendra Das, the main priest of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, passed away on Wednesday. He died at 85.
His death while receiving treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow has been officially verified by his disciple, Pradeep Das.
According to Pradeep Das, his remains is currently being taken from Lucknow to the holy city of Ayodhya for the cremation, which is scheduled for Thursday along the banks of the Saryu River.
Acharya Satyendra Das was hospitalized on Sunday following a brain stroke. In a recent statement, SGPGI officials confirmed that his condition remains critical.
The priest was additionally dealing with diabetes and hypertension, as per the announcement.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences, stating that the passing of the elderly priest was "an inseparable loss.
