Uttarkashi Hit by Flash Floods After Cloudburst, 13 Missing and Rescue Ops Ongoing

Summary: A calamitous cloudburst in Uttarkashi triggered flash floods and mudslides in Dharali village, killing at least four people and leaving dozens missing

A sudden cloudburst in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, late Sunday night erupted in flash floods, leaving a trail of damage in the Mori block. Heavy rains forced rivers to flood, destroying homes, roads, and bridges.

So far, 13 people are reported missing, and one person has sadly lost their life. Villages like Bagori, Jhala, and Gangotri have been badly affected. The floodwaters damaged around 30 houses, several vehicles, and key road connections in the region.

Rescue teams, including the SDRF and NDRF, rushed to the scene early Monday morning. Bad weather and tough terrain have made rescue operations difficult, but efforts are ongoing to find those missing and help the affected families.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is closely monitoring the situation and has directed local authorities to ensure fast relief and medical support for those impacted.

This tragedy once again highlights how vulnerable hilly areas are to extreme weather. Frequent landslides and cloudbursts are common in the state this monsoon season, raising concerns about preparedness and infrastructure in disaster-prone zones.
