Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas died at the age of 72, because of a prolonged illness. The sad news was confirmed by his daughter on social media, in a post she wrote, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padma Shri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February, due to a prolonged illness. Udhas family.” The singer's last rites will take place on Tuesday.

 

According to the sources, Pankaj Ji was suffering from a prolonged illness, and wasn’t keeping well for the last few days. He died on Monday morning, February 27, in Mumbai at the Breach Candy Hospital.

 

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji offered his condolences to the singer, “We mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas Ji, whose singing conveyed a range of emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. I recall my various talks with him over the years. Him leaving is like a void in the music world that can never be filled. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

 

Popular singer Sonu Nigam too expressed his sadness, he wrote, “One of the most important parts of my childhood is lost today. Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries knowing that you are no more. Thank you for always being there. Om Shanti."

 

Indian singer Anup Jalota expressed his condolences as well by sharing some pictures on social media with Pankaj Udhas Sir and wrote, “Shocking. Music legend & my Friend Pankaj Udhas passed away. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his Family and loved ones during this tough time.” 

 

Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee paid his respect saying, “Saddening!!! Rest in peace Pankaj udhas ji! I had the privilege of listening to you and getting amazed by the sweetness of your voice and Sur ! Om Shanti, great artist, great human.
