Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel: Official announcement, release date and more
Summary: The sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s is officially in the works. The news was confirmed by Blumhouse Productions and Universal Productions at CinemaCon.
At CinemaCon, the annual meeting for movie theater owners in Las Vegas, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions confirmed that the sequel to the horror-thriller Five Nights at Freddy’s was in the works. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is set to be released in the fall of 2025, though the date is not confirmed yet.
There were no specifics revealed regarding the plot or which actors and characters from the original film would return. It's also unclear whether the sequel will simply be called Five Nights at Freddy's 2 or will be given a different title. With that said, fans who are eager to see more of the history explored in a follow-up film will be pleased to know that the second installment will be released next fall.
"Five Nights at Freddy's," which was adapted from the popular video game created by Scott Cawthon, became Blumhouse's highest-grossing film ever with over $291 million at the global box office. Despite garnering negative reviews and experiencing a significant decline in ticket sales, the low-budget film managed to make a respectable amount of money. It was immediately made available on NBCUniversal's streaming service, Peacock.
Leading the cast of "Five Nights at Freddy's," Josh Hutcherson plays Mike Schmidt, a young man who is troubled by the murder of his younger brother while caring for his younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio). Mike accepts a position as a night watchman at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza without realizing that the owner was the one who killed his sibling.
The movie cast also includes Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, and Mary Stuart Masterson. Youtubers like MatPat and CoryxKenshin also had a cameo role in the movie.
