Chhaava’s Dance Number Controversy: “Delete it or won’t allow release,” Says Minister Uday Samant.
Summary: Uday Samant asked the movie to be reviewed by historians and experts.
The Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant expressed his concerns about Vicky Kaushal's upcoming movie Chhaava, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna. He has demanded that the film be examined by "experts" to ensure that it has no offensive content before it is released nationwide.
He has expressed his worry over the alleged "objectionable scenes" in the movie, despite his happiness with its release. Samant has objected to a dance scene in the film, arguing that it is not historically accurate and that it should be removed.
He said, "The movie made by Vicky Kaushal shows Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje dancing. The director should cut this part. This movie should be shown to historians and scholars. If they raise objections, we will not let it be released.”
Though he appreciated the efforts to bring Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's heritage to a wider audience, he also underlined the importance of maintaining historical authenticity.
Samant urged the filmmakers to take input from historians and eliminate any controversial material before publication. He threatened to stop the release unless the recommended changes were made.
"Our position is that this film should not be released without first showing it to experts and knowledgeable people. Anything that will harm the honor of the Maharaj will not be tolerated,” said the minister.
"Chhaava" is based on the life of a Maratha king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The Laxman Utekar-directed historical drama, starring Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, will hit theaters on February 14, 2024.
