OTC Analgesics are over-the-counter pain medications which can be purchased without a prescription. They are mainly used for the treatment of headaches, fever, colds, flu, toothaches, arthritis, musculoskeletal injuries and disorders, and menstrual cramps. Basically, there are two major groups of analgesics available for purchase over-the-counter:

> Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen, also known as Tylenol is the most commonly used pain medications. Although it is very effective at reducing fevers and headache, it does not reduce inflammation.
> Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs: Commonly referred by acronym NSAIDs, it is mainly of three types:

They are more effective than Acetaminophen, as along with reducing pain and fever these drugs also work to decrease inflammation.
