City of Houston (COH) is undertaking the expansion of Northeast Water Purification Plant in Texas, the US.
The project involves the expansion of a water purification plant with increasing capacity from 80 million gallons per day (MGD) to 320MGD. It will be developed in two phases.
The first phase will increase the plant capacity from 80MGD from 160MGD and the second phase will increase the plant capacity from 160MGD to 320MGD.
The project includes construction of purification units, a pump station, transmission lines, storage tanks and related facilities, the installation of equipment and the laying of pipelines
In August 2015, COH has invited tender for the project.
In May 2016, Houston Waterworks Team, a joint venture between CH2M Hill Companies, Ltd and CDM Smith were appointed as design-build contractor.
The early works of the project will be developed in four Packages, EWP 1 - site development, EWP 2 - concrete structures for transfer pump station and filter facility, EWP 3 - powerline relocation between the existing plant and intake pump station at lake houston, EWP 4 - raw water 108-inch diameter transmission mains from lake houston intake pump station to new plant. EWP are expected to be completed by second quarter of 2019.
RPS Klotz Associates has been appointed as the civil engineer.
In June 2017, Houston Waterworks Team plans to issue Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) and subsequently Requests for Proposals (RFP) to qualified sub-contractors in second quarter of 2017 for the Early Work Packages and in third quarter - fourth quarter of 2017 to provide construction services for the balance of water treatment plant.
In July 2017, Landtech has been appointed as surveying contractor, FenceMaster has been appointed as fencing contractor, Construction Diversity Group has been appointed as Erosion Control contractor, Lazer Construction has been appointed as Clear & Grub and Earthwork contractor and Emerald Standard has been appointed as Electrical contractor for the site development.
On September 15, 2017, ground breaking ceremony was held.
On March 15, 2018, construction activities commenced and are underway with completion scheduled by 2024.
