Akita Prefectural Government (APG) is undertaking the construction of an offshore wind farm near the port of Akita, Japan.
The project involves the construction of a 65MW offshore wind farm. It includes the construction of a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of 13 turbines with capacity 5MW to each, transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
Obayashi Corporation and Eco Power Co. Ltd were appointed as associate developers.
In December 2014, APG floated tenders for the appointment of a contractor for the project.
On February 5, 2015, Marubeni Corporation was appointed as contractor.
In January 2016, the project received a subsidy from Japans New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
In April 2016, Akita Offshore Wind Farm Corporation, a Special Purpose Company (SPC) that was established by Marubeni (comprises Japanese construction firm Obayashi Corporation, developer EcoPower, the Akita Bank, utilities Tohoku Sustainable & Renewable Energy, Chubu Electric Power and Kansai Electric Power, and seven other local partners) to carry out a feasibility study on the Project.
Planning activities on the project are underway. Construction works are scheduled to commence in 2018 with completion scheduled by 2020.
