Brazing is a process in which more than two metals items are can be joined together by the usage of a molten and a flowing filler metal into the metal joint. Brazing makes use of a number of alloys as filler metals depending on the intended usage or application method. In general, brazing alloys are made up of 3 or more metals to manufacture an alloy with the desired properties. The alloy used as the filler metal is chosen based on the ability to withstand the service conditions required and melt at a temperature lower than the base metals or their ability to wet the base metals that are supposed to be joined.

The braze alloys can be utilized in a number of forms such as paste, powder, tapes, foils and braze wires, and rods and depending on the application, the alloy can be pre-placed at a desired location or can be applied during the heating cycle. For manual brazing, wire and rod forms are generally used as they are the easiest to apply while heating. In the case of furnace brazing, alloy is usually placed beforehand since the process is usually highly automated. Some common types of brazing alloy metals used are aluminium-silicon, copper and copper -silver, copper -zinc etc. Active brazing materials find a widespread usage in joining ceramics which cannot be otherwise joined using conventional alloys due to their poor wetting qualities. These active brazing materials on the other hand are formed by the addition of brazing alloy like titanium to conventional metal alloys thereby leading to an enhancement of the wetting behaviour and aiding the joining of ceramics.

Market Dynamics:

The global market for brazing alloys is forecasted to see a steady surge throughout the forecasted period. The market dynamics is likely to be effected by an increase in the adoption rate of brazing
Over traditional methods of welding and soldering and is used for metal bonding procedures across industries. One of the major reasons behind the enhancement in demand of aluminium brazing alloys in the automotive industry. These aluminium alloys are being used in the brazing of automotive heat exchangers. There has also been a global surge in the demand of automobiles which has led to the subsequent increase in the demand of brazing applications.
Cost effectiveness of brazing alloys coupled with the fact that dissimilar metals can be joined by the means of brazing, has acted as a major advantage of the brazing processes. Metal bonding with brazing is faster than other processes of metal bonding and generates lesser scrap generation. Braze alloys also find applications in automotive, electronics & electrical, construction, and other sectors. Among base metal type, copper and alumina is expected to occupy high market shares, during the forecast period. The increased technological and R&D interventions in this sector is also likely to enhance the demand for brazing alloys for metal joining processes in the forecasted period.

However, an increase in the prices of raw materials is considered to be one of the stumbling blocks in the global brazing alloys market. An increase in the prices of silver and copper has led to the increased cost of manufacturing silver and copper-based alloys. This has eventually raised the cost of the entire brazing process for customers.
