The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) plans to construct the phase III Extension Unit-5 Sagardighi thermal power plant at Murshidabad in West Bengal, India.

The project involves the construction of a 660MW power plant. It includes the construction of a substation, a powerhouse and ash handling plant, the installation of turbines, generators and boilers, and the laying of transmission lines.

In April 2016, EIA report was prepared for submission to the West Bengal Pollution Control Board to conduct the public hearing, but the Central Electricity Authority asked to revise the capacity of the plant and prepare the report.

In July 2016, revised draft EIA report was prepared by Development Consultants Private Limited.

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) will provide the project cost. The project will be funded in the debt-equity ratio of 70:30 and the entire debt will be funded by PFC.

On March 7, 2017, PFC sanctioned a term loan for the project.

In November 2017, WBPDCL issued request for qualification (RFQ) for the appointed for contractor under turnkey basis.

Pre-tender activities are underway. Construction activities are expected to be completed by October 2020.
