Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is planning to undertake the Coega Tank Farm Development project in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
The project involves the construction of new bulk liquid storage and handling facility on 20ha of land with a storage capacity of 790,000m3 and will be able to handle liquid fuels, biodiesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and heavy fuel oil. The project is planned to be developed in two phases.
It will include the construction of road and rail tanker loading gantries, berths, marine loading arms and other infrastructural facilities and the laying of pipelines.
In April 2014, TNPA received environmental authorization from the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
In December 2016, TNPA signed an agreement with Oiltanking Grindrod Calulo (PTY) Ltd (OTGC), a joint venture of Oiltanking GmbH, Grindrod South Africa (PTY) Ltd and Calulo Terminals (PTY) Ltd; to plan, fund, construct, own, maintain and operate the project.
The concept engineering design, topographical and geo-technical survey have been completed.
In January 2018, Construction of new main access road was started.
Fabrication of the tanks and construction of optional LPG bullets is expected to start in April 2018. Project is expected to complete by fourth quarter of 2019.
