Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) is undertaking the construction of a nuclear power plant in Aomori Prefecture, an island near Japan.
The project involves the construction of a 1,383MW nuclear power plant. It includes the construction of a nuclear reactor, pressure vessel, warehouses and related facilities, the installation of an advanced boiling water reactor (ABWR), water treatment systems, generators, moisture separator re-heaters and safety systems.
Electric Power Development Co (J-Power) has been appointed as associated developer, and is also responsible for construction work.
Construction work was due to start in August 2007 for commissioning in 2012, but was delayed by more stringent seismic criteria, then delayed again in 2008.
The groundbreaking was held in May 2008 and main construction work commenced in September 2009.
In March 2011, the construction work was suspended for 18 months after the Fukushima tsunami, and was resumed in October 2012.
