Rajasthan Rajya Vidhyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) is undertaking the expansion of a super thermal power plant in Rajasthan, India.
The project involves the construction of seventh and eighth coal-fired power units with a combined capacity of 1,320MW (2x660MW) on a 673ha area. It includes the construction of powerhouses, coal storage units, combustion chambers, substations and other related facilities, the installation of boilers, turbines, and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
TATA Consulting Engineers Ltd has been appointed as consulting engineer.
In 2009, the project received approvals.
In January 2011, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) emerged as the lowest bidder for providing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services. The other bidders were identified as BGR Energy Systems and Power machines.
On May 23, 2012, the project received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF).
In June 2013, RVUNL laid a foundation stone for the project and started preliminary work.
In July 2013, Alstom was awarded US$35 million contracts by BHEL to supply components and services for the project.
Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will cooperate with BHEL in designing the boilers and supply identified pressure parts of the 660MW supercritical boilers, along with windboxes. It will also assist BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units.
Bevcon Wayors has been appointed as equipment supply contractor for the project. The scope of the contract involves supplying of Steep angle cleated belt conveyors, Air supported belt conveyor, Sandwich type high angle conveyor, Cost-effective pollution free pneumatic conveying system,Special flip flow screens for high moisture Material screening applications,High efficient sugar grader, Fines screening end rushing equipment and Stockyard equipment like radial & liner stackers & reclaimers.
Ingersoll-Rand (India) Ltd. has been appointed as supply contractor.
On May 16, 2016, RVUNL submitted an application for receiving a grant for the Bridge linkages for the project.
Construction work on the seventh unit and the eighth unit are underway with completion by June 2018.
