Hitachi Zosen Corporation (HZC) is planning to construct an offshore wind farm in Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
The project involves the construction of a 220MW offshore wind farm spread on 2,700ha of sea area. It includes the construction of onshore substations and related infrastructure facilities, and the installation of 44 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5MW, and the laying of transmission lines.
In November 2014, Murakami City Council (MCC) established a promotion committee to oversee the project.
On February 6, 2015, Murakami Citys (MC) project promotion committee appointed a consortium of ten companies led by HZC which includes Venti-Japan Inc., Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd, Hitachi Capital Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd, Mitsubishi Corporation, The Daishi Bank, Ltd, TOA Corporation, HONMA Corporation and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd to develop the project.
HONMA Corporation and TOA Corporation were appointed as contractors, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd for the installations of transmission cables and substations and Hitachi Ltd for the installation of turbines and Daishi Bank, Ltd, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd and Hitachi Capital Corporation as financial advisers.
In December 2015, feasibility studies completed.
Project is in the early stage of development. Construction is expected to commence in 2020 and scheduled to be completed in 2024.
