Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) through development agency Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) is undertaking the construction of Koto Hydroelectric Power Plant on Punchkora River, Koto, Lower Dir District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The project involves the construction of a 40.8MW hydroelectric power plant.
It includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, a headrace tunnel, a concrete/steel lined pressure shaft, a tailrace tunnel, mani-fold and penstock, a workshop and store building, and access roads, the installation of three vertical shaft synchronous generators each of 16MVA, and the laying of the transmission lines and related facilities.
The project received the approval from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government. Sarhad Hydel Development Organization has been appointed as study contractor.
The funding for the project will be secured from the federal government which has signed a loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank.
In December 2012, feasibility studies on the project were completed. In August 2013, project received approval from the federal government of Pakistan.
In September 2014, GoKP invited the tenders for the EPC contractor with the submission due date on September 18, 2014.
On October 31, 2014, the financial bids for the project were opened.
On January 2015, the EPC contract was awarded to the joint venture of M/s Sichuan Geological Engineering Complex China, M/s Sarwar & Co Pvt. Ltd Pakistan, M/s Silian Technical Import & Export Co. Ltd Chongqing China & M/s Chongqing Luyang Engineering Design Co. Ltd China (M/s Sichuan-Sarwar-Silian-Chongqing JV).
In July 2015, construction works commenced and are underway with scheduled completion by December 2018.
