In 2014, M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates, Inc. (Gensler) was appointed as design consultant.
In March 2014, Austin City Council (ACC) approved Gensler to create a plan for the project development.
On October 29, 2014, Austin Monitor submitted a memo to City Council.
ACC appointed Urban Land Institute Austin (ULI) to review the Gensler report in December 2014.
In March 2015, Gensler completed the final draft report.
In April 2015, ULIs Technical Assistance Panel revived the report.
In August 2015, Austin Monitor submitted the project plans to ACC.
On August 27, 2016, A public consultation was conducted for the project approvals resulting the raise of concerns about traffic and parking.
On December 14, 2017, ACC approved an agreement with the University of Texas (UoT), Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) to study the business and development scenarios for the expansion of the convention center.
Planning activities are underway. ACCs decision on the expansion plans are expected to be revealed in the fourth quarter of 2018.
