ACEA Distribuzione S.p.A. (ACEA) is planning to construct the electricity distribution network expansion project in Rome, Italy.
The project involves the upgrade and extension of Romes electricity distribution network. It includes the construction of 123km of overhead lines and the demolition of nearly 300km of existing overhead lines.
It will comprise a large number of independent small-medium size schemes, including the implementation or refurbishment of primary substations, MV underground cables, secondary substations and of the LV network.
The works include the planning, laying and putting into service of medium and high-voltage overhead lines and underground cables, medium and low-voltage substations, primary substations and power distribution equipment.
On March 17, 2010, the Memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the re-organization of the high (150kV) and very high (220 and 380kV) voltage distribution and transmission network, was signed by ACEA together with Rome City Council (RCC).
The pre-consultation stage was completed during 2011.
In June 2011, the Environmental Impact Study was submitted to Lazio Regional Authority (LRA) to obtain the compatibility opinion pursuant to Article 13 of Italian Legislative Decree No. 4/2008 concerning the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
In September 2011, a request was forwarded to the Lazio Regional body for departure from the protection measures as per Regional Law No. 29/07.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and ACEA have provided US$263 million loans for the planned investments on Romes power grid.
